Industrial products are extremely diverse in nature and support a wide variety of protocols making operational security complex to implement. Further boosted by digitization – and the digital transformation to Industry 4.0 – the IT-OT convergence has left the industrial sector highly vulnerable to frequent cyber-attacks. Due to the constraints of industrial sites and distributed networks, it’s not always feasible to rely on jump servers to access resources. For instance, some service providers have their own tools to connect to machines, with their own configuration and their own practices.

Authentication, traceability, and session control dedicated to OT.

A unique and proprietary technology from WALLIX of Universal Tunnelling supports all industrial protocols allowing to benefit from the power and simplicity and enhanced user experience. It allows to connect directly to PLCs without going through a bounce server; encapsulating industrial protocols (Modbus, Profinet, S7, EtherCAT, etc.) in an SSH tunnel to ensure the control and traceability of each session. No need for costly bounce servers, as access to resources is granted directly from the usual work environment.

Universal Tunnelling allows service providers to connect to their PLCs, gateways, and other industrial components, exactly as they would without Bastion technology. The Universal Tunneling technology allows to regain visibility over all access to PLCs and furthermore to control costs. With the Bastion technology complete with Universal Tunneling, the risk of compromising workstations or servers at the end of a jump to resources targeted by an attacker is reduced to the absolute minimum.
